Wild Wind Brings Down Tree

A strong wind brought scattered rain showers through the Chico Tuesday. There was only one report of a major tree that had fallen. This was a big change from recent storms that have knocked over many trees damaging much of the town. I guess it seems all the trees have already been knocked down. The weather switched dramatically from wet and windy to sunny by mid afternoon. But that didn't stop the wind from knocking down a tree across the Esplanade near 6th St. I heard the report on the scanner and headed to the scene. No one was hurt, but it did cause a major traffic congestion. Luckily the City of Chico tree crew have had much practice and cleared the tree with ease.

City of Chico tree crew members, Tim Nebel, and Jerry Hoyt (left to right) use chainsaws to cut up an approximate 30ft tree that fell across the Esplanade at 6th St. in high winds and scattered rain showers Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Chico, Calif. The fallen tree blocked the southbound lane and slowed northbound traffic to a single lane until it was cleared. (Jason Halley/Chico Enterprise-Record)
