8FPS: Stabbing in Mobile Home

    Tuesday ended up being a little more exciting than expected. While looking for wild art, I was getting depressed at the lack of uniqueness in the town. I had searched for about an hour and a half with no luck. Well, as luck goes, when there's no news, get ready because something is about to happen. 

     Sure enough, it did. I was at the scene of a fallen tree, when I noticed police race to their patrol cars are flee the scene with sirens blazing. This generally means I better listen to my scanner. I heard of chatter about police looking for a suspect. A quick call to the office and got an address. I headed out to the scene of a stabbing in a mobile home park alongE. Lassen Ave. There had been a victim of a stabbing and police were searching for a suspect at the time I arrived. 

     When I arrive on scene to situations like this, it is always important to work with police to gain the access I need. There is a positive relationship with the Chico Police that the Chico Enterprise-Record has. We have been able to gain the access we need without jeopardizing the duties of law enforcement. I was able to gain entry to the mobile home part where I kept a tight ear on my scanner to hear of updates to police activity. I heard of them moving in on a suspect near the rear of the complex. I couldn't walk through the police tape that had been setup, because that area had been designated a crime scene. I hopped a fence and walked around the complex to where police had apprehended a suspect. They took the suspect into custody and the excitement was over.

     The event was pretty low key. There was no big standoff and thankfully no fatality. Overall this incident is how I like them. They have all the excitement and intensity, without any of the disastrous outcomes. It is cleaned up easily and the report is pretty cut and dry. Just a good 'ol routine law enforcement. Although I did have a great reaction from the suspect when he was arrested. He flipped me off behind his back with his hands in cuffs and then made a goofy face and sounds as he walked past me. He really was a character. These are the times I wish I had the HDSLR to record video of it.
