Taking the Market to New Heights

A lot of times we photograph the same places or events quite often. I decided to take my 13ft light stand (how about this?) and attach my camera to it to give me a different perspective of a generic Saturday Farmer's Market. I was able to raise my camera high above the crowd so that you could see a point of view that most market-goers don't have a clue what it looks like. What came out was a nice overall look at the market which will come in handy with stories about this place.

Late Night Stabbing Is Nothing New

After leaving a high school basketball game, I heard over the scanner reports of police detectives and trips to the hospital. As a journalist, that always peaks your ears. I was able to determine the address of where officers were located and decided to roll by to check out what the issue was. I was greeted with the news that a stabbing had occurred between two transients. While some might consider the issue not news, I still feel any time someone, whomever that might be, is stabbed, it is NEWS! You never know when localized violence will spill over and hurt some innocent bystander. We've been having quite a lot of stabbings recently, and not matter the intensity, it is not ok. Hopefully by photographing the scenes it will continue to bring awareness to the issue to cause some change.

Meeting a Legend

In my job I meet all kinds of characters. Ever so often I meet a true legend. I was lucky to have met the one and only Moriss Taylor the other day. Taylor has recently retired from his media business and I had the change to photograph him in his home this last week. I was looking for really two types of photos. One great closeup portrait and one great environmental portrait. Unknown what his house would showcase, I was pleasantly surprised that Mr. Taylor had brought out a collection of his personal history. That made the perfect backdrop. I had a great time hearing the stories that he shared with myself and the reporter. I am glad to have shared that time with him.

Cold Morning Brings Ice

Temperatures have dropped in the North State and it is cold! While not as cold as the midwest, when you are used to summer heat above 100 degrees, a temp below 32 F becomes quite chilly. I took some time to head out to Lindo Channel and photograph the frost and ice that had formed from the night before.

Chico Cheesheads vs Niner Nation

A growing competition has been heating up ever since Chico native Aaron Rodgers signed to play with the Greenbay Packers. While some have been die hard Cheeseheads before Rodgers, the fact that a local kid has grown to be one of the best NFL quarterbacks have given this town even more reason to wear green and yellow. But let's not forget where we live... Niner Nation. And in Niner Nation, there are the 49er faithful. The battle between fans has always been healthy and it made the NFC Divisional Playoff game very intense.

The game ended bittersweet for Rodgers/49er fans who lost a chance to see their favorite quarterback make it back to a Superbowl, but were happy to have a team they love make it the the NFC Championship game. Does that make it a lose-lose situation or a win-win?

Young Woman Battling for Survival Amid Theft

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting a remarkable young woman who is going through a very scary situation, but you'd never guess by her attitude. I will always be humbled by the experiences others face. Hopefully her story can be shared and bring awareness and help to others who might find themselves in similar situations.
