Soccer Gets Physical
Competition matches between Chico and PV high schools are always tough. The local rivalry can bring aggressive competition. And girls soccer was no exception. Soccer can be a tough sport with strong physical contact, but girls soccer is usually expected to not have its pushy players or intense match ups. Both sides of the teams were in full pressure as they battled for the ball.

Tennis Swings into Action
Tennis is a great sport for photographs. The expressions are usually intense and the body language is perfect for action. While you would think going back and forth to follow the ball might make you dizzy, I try to just stay focused on one player at a time. Otherwise I'd get sick.

Baseball is Back!
A new season of baseball is back on, and I am going to need some practice. After changing camera systems to a slower frame rate (8fps to 5fps) it seems that I am going to have to learn how to photograph action again. I guess I relied to much on the fast frame rate that I didn't even think about my timing. As it turns out, baseball's action is so quick, that my frame rate can't keep up. It looks like I'm going to have to actually start taking pictures now. While I enjoy the video of my new cameras, I do miss the fast speeds of the old system. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with the fast action of the game.

Big Game Brings Blood
The rivalry between Chico's two local high schools, Chico High and Pleasant Valley High, has always been a heated competition. While tempers can fly and fans can grow rowdy, in most recent years, the players have been very civilized toward each other. Most of the players know of each other on the opposing team from earlier friendships. They do play to win, not fight to win. That doesn't always mean you won't get a chance to see a little blood on the court.
During a drive from Pleasant Valley High's Darren Thomas, he unintentionally elbowed Chico High's Andrew Acevedo in the face. Acevedo left the game with a bloody nose. Beyond the accidental injury, Chico High continued to play to secure a win against Pleasant Valley.

Flip for Wrestling
Wrestling is always an interesting sport. I don't quite know how all the scoring goes, or what is considered a pin and what is not. A lot of times it also can seem like a big hugging match. Maybe I just like football to much. But every once and a while you will see a big slam in wrestling. That slam came in a wrestling match against Pleasant Valley and Paradise high schools.

School Starts
The Chico Unified School District has begun teaching its students. I can't believe it is already school time. It seems the summer has not been long at all. I know that we had a great long springtime. It was nice. And while summer heat gets blazing hot in Chico, this summer didn't under long week 100+ temperatures many times. It was quite enjoyable. But school is starting and that means the colleges are starting soon too. I headed out to snag a couple shots of the kids' first day of school.

8FPS: PV Graduation
Pleasant Valley High's graduation was met with wet and cold weather. Rain poured down and there was even a short glimpse of lightning in the sky. I was all prepared to be soaked in the rain, but luckily the skies cleared right before the ceremony started. It was a blessing. I would have loved to shoot a graduation in a downpour, but was very thankful to be dry. Here's the highlights of the night.
